In a six-site randomized pilot trial, 131 pregnant or postpartum participants receiving methadone or buprenorphine were assigned either a brief, computer-assisted education program tailored to their knowledge gaps or standard educational handouts. At three weeks, participants receiving the tailored intervention showed significantly greater improvement in knowledge about medications for opioid use disorder and opioid overdose. The study supports tailored education as a promising way to address knowledge gaps, but did not establish whether the intervention improves treatment retention or prevents overdoses.
